Sally at 14 was in love for the first time in her life and her father was moving them to California in a few days even though she’d made it quite clear that she wanted to stay here and live with her grandmother.
Most girls her age would have been ecstatic to move to California, but Sally’s heart was breaking thinking she would only see Charlie one more time before they left on their 3-thousand-mile journey across the country.
Most of the things they had would have to be left behind as they could only take so much in the station wagon.
The night before they were to leave Charlie had come over for dinner and brought Sally a beautiful sterling silver charm bracelet which made Sally cry.
Outside there was a blizzard going on, but Charlie had to catch the last bus home, so he and Sally made their way through the snow stopping frequently for a hug and a kiss.
Saying their goodbyes through many tears was not easy for either of them and Sally stood after a wave at the bus thinking life is so unfair.

This six sentence story was written for a challenge over at GirlieOnTheEdge. The prompt word this week: WAVE
Life is shit for lovers. But it saved them all the grief of escalating arguments and mounting suspicions and bitter accusations and … the end, that’s so frequently the pattern of young love. Oops, didn’t mean to be so cynical

I would totally steal and/or paraphrase F Scott Fitzgerald … “the young are different.” even (and especially from those who have left youth behind.)
Good Six
(thanks for the inspiration to try a haiku,… your other 7/24/19 post)

Talk about bad timing! Especially, at that age. First loves are the most difficult to get over 🙂 When you have no control over why it has to end? Even more tragic. But oh, what a diary entry it will make!

Life is unfair when you are young and torn from the place you really want to stay and the people you really want to be with. Well told!
