This was written for this week’s flash fiction challenge over at Carrot Ranch.
In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about having to wait. Who is waiting and what for? Think about how the wait impacts the character or the story. Go where the prompt leads!

“How soon will be able to get me the results?”
“I should have them in by say nine o’clock tomorrow morning.”, the doctor said.
“Alright, well I’ll be waiting to hear from you then, and thanks so much for doing this for me, I know this isn’t something you regularly do.”
“That’s true but in this case, I’m happy to.”
I couldn’t sleep that night, waiting wasn’t something I liked to do.
Sitting patiently by the phone the next morning anticipating what the doctor would say, the phone rang.
“I have your test results and you are indeed pregnant.”
The waiting for doctors to call with results is unnerving! How stunned you must have been at the news. Worth waiting to hear.

Yes, those waiting days. They were quite the anxiety inducing moments.

Thanks, how are you doing? Haven’t been around much these days. Weather is too nice to stay inside right now 🙂

Lucky you. Our weather is ever-changeable. And now it seems to be going into heat-wave, with accompanying thunderstorms and rain torrenching.

I hope that your weather improves for you.

But not if it’s to be months of heatwave. I do like the rain. It’s just my camera doesn’t!

I can live without heatwave’s too. I prefer 20c without humidity.

That’s nice. I’m taking the camera for a walk tomorrow. Forecast is overcast, temps around 16-18 C, no rain, a bit blustery. That’s good for photos. Too much sun spoils the shot.

Wish we’d had home pregnancy tests in the late 1970’s. At least, by that time, a rabbit didn’t have to die to determine if a woman was pregnant.

Those poor rabbits way back when.
