This short story is for Six Sentence Story over at Denise’s.

The word prompt is EXTENSION.

We’d packed up all her things loaded them onto a truck and headed for the Canadian border.

Being a snowbird for mother was now over as she was getting too old to be in Florida by herself and needed us to take care of her.

Luckily, we were able to renovate and add living quarters onto our house for her as there was no way we’d put her in a retirement or nursing home.

“It’s sure taking a long time to get there, can’t you drive a bit faster, you’ve got to be going under the speed limit,” mom said with a slight hint of sarcasm on the third day of the journey.”

“Here we are, this is our exit mom, we’ll be home in a few minutes.”

When we reached the driveway mom immediately noticed the extension on the side of the house and said, “Oh my, you’ve outdone yourselves this time, I can’t wait to see the inside.”

  5. UP #

That would be great, her own little place attached to the big place. Fortunately mother and daddy were able to live in their home until they passed. The sisters helped. The rest of us were too far away.

Great six, thought provoking and moving.
