Sunday Afternoon Drive

One of the many views from Griffith Park
It was Sunday and I was out for a drive with my parents on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon in California heading to Griffith Park.
We happened upon a traffic jam, not unusual for Los Angeles, and there was a car beside us with several young guys looking over at me in the backseat.
Our windows were down, and I heard one of the guys say, wow check her out. The next comment was, ya, but look what she’s going to look like when she’s older.
I had hoped that my stepmother who was a large woman had not heard this comment as I’m sure it would have made her feel bad.
I can remember thinking, yes but we’re not blood-related.

It’s sad how despite all our best intentions and thoughts and desires and awareness that there’s a little part inside of us that remains self-serving. Who knows, maybe we need that to survive? I used to have an aunt who was a very large woman and once we were all at a restaurant and there was a family next to us and the kids at that table were making comments – quietly, but just loud enough to be heard – about her weight. Anyway, an excellent six sentences that captured a very real human condition.

That’s kinda like saying not to judge the book by the cover. Though it’s something every reader does, consciously or not. Yet who’s to say the book bears its own cover. 🙂

Sadly, there are people like that. Good, realistic six.

Good Six.
* a compliment utilized when dealing with a Six that grabs the Reader in a way that requires additional reflection (afterwards) to figure out why it makes them feel… however it is they feel.**
** in a good way, of course

I know the step-mother heard them, and I feel like her first thought, was the same as the young ladies.. Very thought provoking premise for the tale. Excellent six.
